They Aren’t Coming to You, But They Could Have

Updated: Oct 7

It showed up on my Facebook feed repeatedly that night. A horrific news story that detailed the abuse and neglect three children fell victim to, right here in our state.

I try to scroll quickly past these posts. My job duties require me to read these afflictions daily as we place abused children into foster homes. However, on this night my curiosity got the best of me. I clicked and skimmed the story - and then headed to the comment section (I must’ve felt like torturing myself).  It looked something like this...

“I’ll take those sweet babies.”

“I wish they would bring those kiddos to me, I’ll take care of them."

“I wish adoption weren’t so expensive, I’d take those babies.”

How I wanted to reply to those comments?

“They aren’t coming to you, but they could have.”

Because we DID need someone to take those children, and the need for others just like them is there Every. Single. Day. They just aren't the ones who go viral.

If those well-intentioned commenters would  go through the completely free process to be a certified foster parent, they could help so many children and families." There are, and will continue to be, countless others with their own similar stories who need a safe place to land.

Becoming a foster parent doesn’t take a special person, it just takes a willing one.
